    Winter Storm Warning for March 5 -- Updated 3/4/2015 12:26:31 PM

    The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Alexandria area for Thursday, March 5, from midnight to 9 p.m. Significant accumulation of ice and snow may result in a Level 2 storm, which means that travel could be dangerous and some residential roads may not be clear until later in the week. Because the storm is expected to begin with rain, pre-treating streets with salt brine will not be effective. This type of precipitation often results in power outages. The City urges all residents and businesses to be prepared on an ongoing basis for the possibility that it may not be safe to travel for three or more days, and that power may be out during this period.

    Summer Camp for ages 12-15. Help Alexandria’s City archaeologists excavate a real archaeological site! Learn professional excavating, recording, and artifact processing methods. Uncover Alexandria’s buried past while protecting the City’s valuable historic resources. Camp takes place July 21-25 from 9 am to 3:30 pm, at the Alexandria Archaeology Museum and at a real archaeological site in Alexandria.

    Fees:$400 with available scholarships. A non-refundable deposit check of $100, payable to the City of Alexandria, is required upon receipt of application to secure your reservations. The balance of $300 is due by June 1, 2014. To register, fill out the Summer Camp Application, available from the Event Link. Scholarships may be available for those in need.
