Title:Juneteenth at the Alexandria Archaeology Museum
Date & Time:Fri Jun 16, 2023 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Location:Alexandria Archaeology Museum, 105 N. Union St. (Map This)
Suite #327
Event Details:Visit the Alexandria Archaeology Museum on Friday, June 16 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. for a hands-on activity related to a site excavated in Alexandria's 19th century African American neighborhood of Hayti. The activity is paired with the new Lee Street Site permanent archaeology exhibit. Cases and panels display artifacts and reveal the archaeological process and the history of Alexandria as seen through waterfront archaeological sites. The Lee Street Site answers questions like: what is urban archaeology; what did the city look like in the past; and what do archaeologists do? The newly designed exhibit centers the experiences of free and enslaved African Americans in Alexandria.
