    The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Alexandria area for Thursday, March 5, 2015, from midnight to 9 p.m. A snow emergency has been declared for the City of Alexandria, with enforcement of snow emergency routes to begin at 7 a.m. on Thursday, March 5. City offices and facilities will be closed on Thursday, March 5.  Emergency personnel should report as scheduled. Significant accumulation of ice and snow is expected, which means that travel could be dangerous and some residential roads may not be clear until later in the week. Because the storm is expected to begin with rain, pre-treating streets with salt brine will not be effective. This type of precipitation often results in power outages.

    The event has been CANCELLED. Celebrate National Pharmacist month by meeting a local female pharmacist! Girl Scouts are invited to discuss women’s health issues and explore careers in the medical field with a female pharmacist, grad student, and technician from behind the counter of the local King Street CVS pharmacy. This one-hour program includes a tour highlighting women’s health topics and about 20 minutes of question/answer time with the Pharmacy team. New tours will begin at 1:30, 2, 2:30, and 3. Admission is $6 per person. Reservations are available through the Apothecary’s online store at www.apothecarymuseum.org and are recommended as space is limited. Girl Scout badge connections: Brownie Girl Scout My Best Self; Junior Girl Scout Staying Fit; Senior Girl Scout Women’s Health. Contact the Curator of Education at 703.746.4739 for more details.
