Event Details:Lecture: Defending the Old Dominion: Virginia and its Militia in the War of 1812. Stuart Butler, retired assistant branch chief of the Military Archives Division, National Archives and Records Administration. Mr. Butler will discuss Virginia's political and military response to the war with an emphasis on the role of Governor James Barbour and the organization of the militia. He will also discuss some major points of friction that developed between Virginia and the federal government during the prosecution of the war.
