The Freedom House Museum, located at 1315 Duke Street, occupies part of a historic complex once used for trafficking thousands of Black men, women, and children from 1828 to 1861. Operated in partnership with the Urban League of Northern Virginia, the Office of Historic Alexandria began assisting with museum operations in February 2018, eventually purchasing the building in 2020. After reopening in May 2022 with three floors of temporary exhibits, the next step involved crafting a Comprehensive Plan.

The Office of Historic Alexandria, in close collaboration with the community and stakeholders, has embarked on the development of this Comprehensive Plan. This strategic document will chart the course for the future use, interpretation, and preservation of the Freedom House Museum site.
