KaNikki Jakarta, Poet Laureate, City of Alexandria
City of Alexandria Poet Laureate KaNikki Jakarta invites residents to read poetry in celebration of the National Poem in Your Pocket day. The 2020 “DASHing Words in Motion” Poets have also been invited to read their winning poetry that will be displayed on the DASH buses and Trolleys throughout the month of April. This virtual event is hosted by KaNikki Jakarta, the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association and the Office of the Arts. If you wish to read or participate as an audience member, please send in your RSVP to: poet@alexandriava.gov. In the email, state if you wish to read, or just be an observer as an audience member. A confirmation and ZOOM invitation will be sent to you by KaNikki Jakarta, Poet Laureate, City of Alexandria.

About the Poet Laureate:

KaNikki Jakarta is an award-winning performance poet who has toured the United States and the United Kingdom. She has founded, facilitated, or hosted 15 live poetry events, ranging from “open mics” and award ceremonies to conferences and workshops. With more than 26 years of writing experience and nearly two decades on the poetry scene, Jakarta has opened for vocalists Jill Scott, Raheem DaVaughn, and Lyfe Jennings. She has authored three works of fiction, two poetry collections, a poetry CD, and a memoir.

This program is part of the Office of the Arts "Arts at Home" series, supporting local artists and the community.
