 ristmas was observed during the Civil War at Fort Ward Museum's annual Ci
 vil War Christmas in Camp program on Saturday\, December 11\, 2021\, from
  12-4 p.m.  This popular family-oriented event features a patriotic Civil
  War Santa Claus\, reenactors in winter camp settings\, period decoration
 s\, fort tours\, and kids activities.  The suggested donation is $2 per p
 erson\, and $5 for families.\n\nThe program features a Civil War-era Unio
 n Santa Claus\, based on an 1863 cover of Harper's Weekly by artist Thoma
 s Nast\, who will interact with the public\, welcome children to the reco
 nstructed Officers' Hut\, and visit soldiers in camp.  Reenactors will in
 terpret army life in winter camps that are decorated for the season\, and
  celebrate by opening Christmas boxes from home\, singing carols of the p
 eriod around the campfire\, and preparing holiday meals.  The Museum will
  be decorated with festive greenery and a Victorian parlor tree.  Soldier
 -led tours of the historic fort will be presented\, and children can make
  a Christmas card or ornament.  A variety of Civil War books and "stockin
 g stuffers" are available in the Museum shop.\n\nPlease note that masks a
 re required for adults and children in the Museum and Officers' Hut\, and
