 In this brief interpretative biography covering Washington's entire life\
 , including an Afterword on Washington and slavery\, Professor Henriques 
 attempts to make Washington understandable to a larger audience that migh
 t not have the patience to read some of the larger works focusing on Amer
 ica's most important leader. Peter R. Henriques received his Ph.D. in his
 tory from the University of Virginia and is Professor of History\, Emerit
 us\, from George Mason University. He taught American and Virginia histor
 y with a special emphasis on the Virginia Founding Fathers\, especially G
 eorge Washington. His latest book\, George Washington: His Quest for Hono
 r and Fame\, is his fourth book addressing various aspects of Washington'
 s life and character. His earlier works are The Death of George Washingto
 n: He Died as He Lived\;  Realistic Visionary: A Portrait of George Washi
 ngton\; and First and Always: A New Portrait of George Washington.  He ha
 s presented the Distinguished Lecture Series at Colonial Williamsburg\, b
 een awarded a George Washington Fellowship by the Mount Vernon Ladies Ass
