 dria launches into Memorial Day Weekend with an evening of world-class ja
 zz by the waterfront. The 43rd Alexandria Jazz Festival is Saturday\, May
  29\, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Oronoco Bay Park (100 Madison Street). \n\
 nCritically acclaimed artists Joel Ross 'Good Vibes\,' Eric Byrd Trio\, V
 ERONNEAU\, and Cubano Groove perform bossa nova\, contemporary\, straight
  and Latin jazz into the evening.  \n\nThe all-ages concert is free. Due 
 to Emergency Public Health Guidelines\, attendance will be limited and se
 ating will be assigned. Pre-registration is required\, and parties are li
 mited to four people or fewer. Masks covering the nose and mouth will be 
 required for all attendees over age 2. Early RSVPs are encouraged\, as sp
 ace is limited. A waiting list will be available for late registrants. Re
 serve tickets via alexandriava.gov/Arts. \n\nGates open at 3 p.m. and par
 ties must use their assigned entry point. Visitors should plan on bringin
 g a blanket and chairs to enjoy the music from the grass\, but leave umbr
 ellas\, tents\, and pets at home. Attendees are asked to remain in their

 ormed with musicians of all genres\, locally and abroad more than 30 year
 s. His band\, Cubano Groove\, has deep roots both in Cuban and D.C.'s bro
 ader music scene. Featured at the 2016 D.C. Jazz Fest\, the band was a ma
 instay at HR-57 jazz clubs\, performing with icons such as Cuban pianist 
 Chuchito Valdes. Iba?ez has played with D.C. Latin legends Maria Rodrigue
 z\, Sin Miedo and singer/percussionist Alfredo Mojica\, Jr.\n\n5:20 p.m.:
  VERONNEAU\nVERONNEAU plays award-winning acoustic jazz with a global twi
 st. French Canadian Lynn Veronneau fronts the multilingual band with her 
 English husband\, guitarist Ken Avis. They have toured Europe and North A
 merica\, with live performances on BBC Radio as well as at The Kennedy Ce
 nter\, Strathmore\, The Hamilton and DC Jazz Fest.  \n\n6:35 p.m.: Eric B
 yrd Trio\nFor almost two decades\, The Eric Byrd Trio-pianist/vocalist Er
 ic Byrd\, bassist Bhagwan Khalsa\, and drummer Alphonso Young\, Jr.-have 
 traveled the world as enthusiastic ambassadors of jazz. Rooted in swing a
 nd be-bop\, The Trio also embraces gospel and the blues as core elements 
 of their expansive performance style. Their body of work spans seven uniq
 ue studio and live recordings. They earned the 2020 Maryland State Arts C
 ouncil Independent Artist Award for notable achievement. They have been s
 ponsored by the U.S. State Department Jazz Ambassadors touring South Amer
 ica\, Central America\, the Caribbean\, Eastern & Western Europe\, and th
 e Middle East. \n\n8:00 p.m.: Joel Ross 'Good Vibes'\nJoel Ross\, the Chi
 cago-born\, Brooklyn-based player and composer was recognized as a "brigh
 t young vibraphonist on his own rocket-like trajectory" by The New York T
 imes. He played with Makaya McCraven\, Walter Smith III\, Matthew Stevens
 \, Marquis Hill\, Peter Evans and James Francies. He jammed with Herbie H
 ancock and studied with Stefon Harris to develop his artistry. The New Yo
 rk Times said he "is already widely known as jazz's top prospect." His de
 but album with Blue Note\, 'KingMaker\,' was acclaimed in the Times\, NPR
  Music\, Pitchfork and more\, and with the release of 'Who Are You?\,' Ro
 ss shares the culmination of a year-long exercise in experimenting and ri
