ar/Detail.aspx?si=35075\n\nHave unwanted and expired prescription medicat
ions? Dispose of them safely at the "Drug Take Back" to prevent pill abus
e and theft. \n\nDeputies from the Alexandria Sheriff's Office will be co
llecting unwanted medications outside the Neighborhood Pharmacy at 2204 M
ount Vernon Avenue as part of a national Drug Take Back Day. The Alexandr
ia Police Department and the Alexandria Sheriff's Office\, with cooperati
on from the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria\, are staf
fing multiple drop off sites for Drug Take Back.\n\nDrop off potentially
dangerous expired\, unused and unwanted prescription drugs and other medi
cations for safe disposal and destruction. These drugs can be a source of
supply for illegal use and an unacceptable risk to public health and saf
ety\, particularly in the case of opioids. \n\nThis initiative addresses
a vital public safety and public health issue. Many Americans are not awa
re that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible t

escription drugs are obtained from family and friends\, including from th
e home medicine cabinet. In addition\, many Americans do not know how to
properly dispose of their unused medicine\, often flushing them down the
toilet or throwing them away - both potential safety and health hazards.
\n\nThis program also supports the goals of the Eco-City Alexandria initi

productive lives while reducing their impact on the environment. \n\nThe
