ar/Detail.aspx?si=27866\n\nHave unwanted and expired prescription medicat
ions? Dispose of them safely at the "Drug Take Back" to prevent pill abus
e and theft. \n\nDeputies from the Alexandria Sheriff's Office will be co
llecting unwanted medications outside the Neighborhood Pharmacy at 2204 M
ount Vernon Avenue as part of this national Drug Take Back Day initiated
by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The Alexandria Police Department
and the Alexandria Sheriff's Office\, with cooperation from the Substance
Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria\, are staffing multiple drop of
f sites for Drug Take Back.\n\nDrop off potentially dangerous expired\, u
nused and unwanted prescription drugs and other medications for safe disp
osal and destruction. These drugs can be a source of supply for illegal u
se and an unacceptable risk to public health and safety\, particularly in
the case of opioids. \n\nThis initiative addresses a vital public safety
and public health issue. Many Americans are not aware that medicines tha
t languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion\, misuse
and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are
obtained from family and friends\, including from the home medicine cabin
et. In addition\, many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of t
heir unused medicine\, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing th
em away - both potential safety and health hazards. \n\nThis program also
supports the goals of the Eco-City Alexandria initiative to promote a pl
ace where people can live healthier and economically productive lives whi
le reducing their impact on the environment. \n\nThe service is free and
 anonymous\; no questions asked.\n\nLocation: No Location Specified\nCont
