 e and theft. \n\nDeputies from the Alexandria Sheriff's Office will be co
 llecting unwanted medications outside The Neighborhood Pharmacy at 2204 M
 ount Vernon Avenue as part of this national Drug Take Back Day initiated 
 by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The Alexandria Police Department 
 and the Alexandria Sheriff's Office\, with cooperation from the Substance
  Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria and Alexandria Renew Enterprise
 s\, are holding three drop off sites for Drug Take Back.\n\nDrop off pote
 ntially dangerous expired\, unused and unwanted prescription drugs and ot
 her medications for safe disposal and destruction. These drugs can be a s
 ource of supply for illegal use and an unacceptable risk to public health
  and safety. \n\nThis initiative addresses a vital public safety and publ
 ic health issue. Many Americans are not aware that medicines that languis
 h in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion\, misuse and abuse
 . Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained 
 from family and friends\, including from the home medicine cabinet. In ad
 dition\, many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of their unus
 ed medicine\, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away -
  both potential safety and health hazards. \n\nThis program also supports
  the goals of the Eco-City Alexandria initiative to promote a place where
  people can live healthier and economically productive lives while reduci
