Event Details:In the 1820s and 1830s, the company known as Franklin and Armfield used the Alexandria townhouse at 1315 Duke Street as the Chesapeake headquarters for the largest domestic slave trading operation in the United States. In this lecture, Professor Joshua Rothman details how that business worked, and he discusses the professional and private lives of the three partners who ran the company. 7 p.m. lecture, doors open at 6:30 p.m.
