Event Details:Join us in Old Town Alexandria each second Friday of the month for a concert sponsored by The Folklore Society of Greater Washington (FSGW) and The Office of Historic Alexandria. Locations will rotate between the Murray-Dick-Fawcett House (517 Prince Street), Lloyd House (220 North Washington Street), and The Lyceum, Alexandria’s History Museum (201 South Washington Street). This month's conceert features Americana music by Leigh Beamer. Born and raised in Wytheville, Virginia, Leigh is one of the leading young vocalists in Southwest Virginia and a skilled interpreter of the old-time music of Appalachia. As a teenager, Leigh was introduced to Appalachian music by local musician, Sam Gleaves, and over the years took up playing the clawhammer banjo and the fiddle. Currently, Leigh is a senior at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where she longs to get back to the mountains of her home.
