You're all missing the point. The whole idea is to redevelop the mall and community and introduce the yuppy crowd that has made Clarendon and other parts of Northern Virginia boom. If you build it (and do it right), they WILL come. Look at the housing market in Clarendon -- real estate prices are through the roof. Tiny homes near the heart of town are selling for $1 million. This part of Alexandria needs revitalization and a new crowd. Will this result in some of the current residents being pushed into other neighborhoods? Yes. Will the rent and cost of living substantially increase? Yes. But that's the point. A new, young crowd with money to spend in a part of Alexandria 10 minutes from Old Town and 20 minutes to DC.
