 exandria Sheriff's Office\, and Alexandria Health Department\, with cooper
 ation from the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria\, are st
 affing multiple drop-off locations for safe medication disposal.\n\nDrop o
 ff unused or expired medication at the Alexandria Police Department Headqu
 arters from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. No needles are accepted at this site.\n

 lic health issue. Many Americans are not aware that medicines that languis
 h in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion\, misuse and abuse.
  Studies show that the majority of misused prescription drugs are obtained
  from family and friends\, including from home medicine cabinets. In addit
 ion\, many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of unused medicat
 ion\, often flushing it down the toilet or throwing it away - both potenti
 al safety and health hazards.\n\nDrug take back days and permanent drop bo
 xes also support the goals of the Eco-City Alexandria initiative to promot
 e a place where people can live healthier and economically productive live
