Dispose of them safely at the "Drug Take Back" to prevent pill abuse and theft. \n\nDeputies from the Alexandria S heriff's Office will be collecting unwanted medications outside the Neighb orhood Pharmacy at 2204 Mount Vernon Avenue as part of a local Drug Take B ack Day. The Alexandria Police Department and the Alexandria Sheriff's Off ice\, with cooperation from the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Al exandria\, are staffing multiple drop off sites for Drug Take Back.\n\nDro p off potentially dangerous expired\, unused and unwanted prescription dru gs and other medications for safe disposal and destruction. These drugs ca n be a source of supply for illegal use and an unacceptable risk to public health and safety\, particularly in the case of opioids. \n\nThis initiat ive addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Many American s are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly s usceptible to diversion\, misuse and abuse. Studies show that a majority o f abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends\, includi ng from the home medicine cabinet. In addition\, many Americans do not kno w how to properly dispose of their unused medicine\, often flushing them d own the toilet or throwing them away - both potential safety and health ha zards. \n\nThis program also supports the goals of the Eco-City Alexandria initiative to promote a place where people can live healthier and economi cally productive lives while reducing their impact on the environment. \n\ nThe service is free and anonymous\; no questions asked.\n\nLocation: No Location Specified\nContact Person: PIO Amy Bertsch\nContact Phone: 703.74 6.4114\nAudience: Anyone may attend\nTags: APDCalendar\, Criminal Justice\ , Del Ray\, Eco-City\, Health\, Mt.
