Dispose of them safely at the "Drug Take Back" to prevent pill abuse and theft. \n\nOfficers from the Alexandria P olice Department will be collecting unwanted medications outside First Bap tist Church as part of this national Drug Take Back Day initiated by the D rug Enforcement Administration. The Alexandria Police Department and the A lexandria Sheriff's Office\, with cooperation from the Substance Abuse Pre vention Coalition of Alexandria\, are staffing multiple drop off sites for Drug Take Back.\n\nDrop off potentially dangerous expired\, unused and un wanted prescription drugs and other medications for safe disposal and dest ruction. These drugs can be a source of supply for illegal use and an unac ceptable risk to public health and safety\, particularly in the case of op ioids. \n\nThis initiative addresses a vital public safety and public heal th issue. Many Americans are not aware that medicines that languish in hom e cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion\, misuse and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from famil y and friends\, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition\, ma ny Americans do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine\ , often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away - both potenti al safety and health hazards. \n\nThis program also supports the goals of the Eco-City Alexandria initiative to promote a place where people can liv e healthier and economically productive lives while reducing their impact on the environment. \n\nThe service is free and anonymous\; no questions a sked.\n\nLocation: First Baptist Church\, 2932 King St.\nContact Phone: 70 3.746.6600\nAudience: Anyone may attend\nTags: APDCalendar\, Criminal Just ice\, Eco-City\, Health\, King Street\, Public Safety\, West End\n\nImport this event into your calendar: http://apps.alexandriava.gov/CalendarTest/ iCal.aspx?id=1&si=27867\n\nWeb resources:\n\nhttps://www.alexandriava.gov/ uploadedFiles/Sheriff/info/DrugTakeBackFlyerFall2019.pdf\n DTEND:20191026T180000Z DTSTAMP:20190920T144027Z DTSTART:20191026T140000Z GEO:38.819632;-77.078415 LOCATION:First Baptist Church\, 2932 King St. SEQUENCE:4 STATUS:CONFIRMED SUMMARY:Drug Take Back at First Baptist Church TRANSP:TRANSPARENT UID:cac42ce5-bd92-4bf8-a90f-8336030d05ad URL:https://www.alexandriava.gov/uploadedFiles/Sheriff/info/DrugTakeBackFly erFall2019.pdf X-COA-DTSTAMP:20190920T144027Z END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
