 aff of the Historic Alexandria Museums is raising money to support the pre
 servation of the Freedom House Museum. This National Historic Landmark\, l
 ocated at 1315 Duke Street\, was "ground zero" for the domestic slave in t
 he Chesapeake region. Between 1828 and 1861\, thousands of men\, women\, a
 nd children were sent by ship or forcibly marched to the lucrative slave m
 arkets in Natchez and New Orleans. Agents of the slave dealers purchased i
 ndividuals throughout Maryland and Virginia and brought them to the Alexan
 dria Slave Pen before transport to the Deep South. The names of the enslav
 ed can be seen today on ship manifests and court records.  This year your 
 donation will support this important ?national landmark by helping us crea
 te a Freedom House Preservation Fund. Currently\, over 2 million dollars i
 n funding is needed to preserve and restore this building. To be able to i
 nterpret its history\, the building must be made safe and accessible for a
 ll visitors. Since so many sites related to the domestic slave trade no lo
 nger exist\, it is imperative that we save this most important artifact -
