The 2022 application process is an annual competitive process t o become a Resident Artist at the Art Center. This year's applicants are scored by four highlight qualified jurors.\n\nThe Phases\nPhase I consider ed artistic merit and was judged blind\, with jurors only viewing the art. Jurors looked for deliberately crafted artwork with an authentic and orig inal point of view that reflects an awareness of current trends and aesthe tics in the larger art world. It was worth a maximum 50 points. Applicants needed 33 points to advance.\nPhase II was non-blind and considers applic ants' backgrounds. Jurors looked for artists who can explain their art and who want to engage and interact with the public through their work. They reviewed applicants' career highlights and how they have marketed themselv es or their work. It was worth a maximum of 25 points. Applicants needed a combined 50 points from Phases I and II to advance.\nPhase III gives the jurors an opportunity to meet and interact with the applicants. This is th e first time jurors are seeing the art work in-person to review it for qua lity. These trails highlight the contributions of Black Alexandrians\, free and enslaved\, to the history of Alexandria's waterfront. The South Trail Route consists of 19 stops and is the second in a series of trails covering the waterfront. The North Trail Route\, launched in 2021\, includes 11 stops. Together th e two trails span a little over three miles from Montgomery St. to the sou th end of Jones Point Park. The trails can be experienced on a computer or as a StoryMap on a smartphone as you walk the trails along the Potomac Ri ver. The African American Waterfront Heritage Trail Committee is made up o f volunteer community members and historians and is supported by staff fro m the Alexandria Black History Museum and Alexandria Archaeology. \n\nPar king is limited in the Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum parking lot .
