 her and Syphax family genealogist Steve Hammond for a lecture on November 
 19th via Zoom at 7p.m. \n\nAlexandria's location has impacted the people w
 ho have lived and worked here through the centuries. Steve Hammond will sh
 are his Syphax family legacy and how it connects with Alexandria. His rese
 arch is a compelling story of challenge and discovery.  Working to find th
 e African American roots of the prominent Syphax family\, he forged workin
 g relationships with scholars across the nation. Through his work\, Mount 
 Vernon\, Carlyle House\, Arlington House\, and the White House Historical 
 Association as well as  Historic Alexandria's own Gadsby's Tavern Museum a
 nd the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum have been able to tell a more 
 complete story of Alexandria and the nation.\n\nSteve Hammond is retired f
 rom the United States Department of Interior after many years of service a
 s an earth scientist. A genealogist and family historian\, Hammond has spe
 nt decades researching\, writing\, and lecturing about the Syphax Family a
 nd their place in Virginia history. Nancy Syphax\, once enslaved by tavern
  keeper John Gadsby\, is Mr. Hammond's third great-grandmother.\nThe lectu
 re is sponsored by the Office of Historic Alexandria.\n\nGuests will recei

 s birthday\, the Apothecary Museum is offering a special tour for families
  (and adults who missed their Hogwarts' letter) that will explore the old 
 Apothecary and the historic muggle medicines that inspired the Herbology a
 nd Potions of Harry's wizarding world. Tours are every 30 minutes from 11 
 a.m. to 6 p.m. Recommended for fans ages 8 and older.\n\nTours are capped 
 at six people due to small spaces in the Museum and for the safety of our 
 staff and visitors. Masks are required for unvaccinated visitors and child
 ren under 12.  For a private tour\, you may purchase all six tickets for y
 our tour time (if available)\, even if there will be less than six people 
 in your group. Each timed-entry will be a separate tour\, so be sure to pu
 rchase your group's tickets for only one timed-entry. Groups larger than s
 ix people must split up to visit the museum. Touring the museum involves a
