DESCRIPTION:The City of Alexandria's Public Art Program named Nina Cooke Jo
 hn as the next artist to create a public art installation in Waterfront Pa
 rk in 2023. Selected by a task force and approved by the Alexandria Commis
 sion for the Arts\, she will create an original\, site-specific work inspi
 red by Alexandria.\n\nNina is the founding principal of Studio Cooke John 
 Architecture and Design\, a multidisciplinary design studio that values pl
 acemaking as a way to transform relationships between people and the built
  environment. Studio Cooke John has been selected to design the new Harrie
 t Tubman Monument in Newark and is a part of the Elle D?cor A-List class o
 f 2021.\n\nAs part of the City's public art process\, Cooke John will visi
 t Alexandria and meet residents\, gathering inspiration for a design to co
 me in Fall 2022. \n\nThe public is encouraged to meet her and learn about 
 her creative process on Tuesday\, May 3 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The recep
 tion will be ALX Community's Waterfront location at 201 North Union Street
