 eader David Heiby will trace the role of local troops in this key Confeder
 ate regiment during Robert E. Lee's invasion of Maryland.  The tour will b
 egin by visiting two sites in Alexandria where members of the 17th are bur
 ied\, then travel to South Mountain in Frederick\, Maryland to visit sites
  related to that battle.  The tour will continue to Antietam National Batt
 lefield where participants will explore the role of the 17th Virginia duri
 ng the September 17\, 1862  battle which became known as the bloodiest sin
