The GIP provides direct\, re curring cash payments of $500 a month\, with no restrictions on use\, to 1 50 Alexandria households for two years\, anticipated to start November 1\, 2021. The payment is unconditional\, with no requirements and no restrict ions on how it is to be spent.\nA research team will evaluate the outcomes to inform decisions on future efforts and policies. Guaranteed income giv es recipients more freedom\, dignity and self-determination to make choice s for their financial well-being. Research shows that when given unrestric ted payments\, recipients can pull themselves out of poverty and create ec onomic stability for their families. GIPs have also been found to improve health\, education and child welfare outcomes. The pilot is one way that t he City of Alexandria is addressing the longstanding national and institut ional problem of the racial income gap.\n\nGIP Participants\nEligible city residents with a household income at 30-40% of Area Median Income or who meet the Alexandria United Way's Asset Limited and Income Constrained (ALI CE) requirements while employed are eligible for the selection pool. As a reference\, before the pandemic\, 28% of Alexandria's households were iden tified as ALICE. Community non-nonprofit organizations will reach out to t he target populations and invite residents who meet the eligibility criter ia apply. The research partner will randomly select 150 applicants from th e application pool to receive the monthly payment.\n\nLocation: Virtual O nly\nAudience: Anyone may attend\nTags: Community Meeting\n\nImport this e vent into your calendar: http://apps.alexandriava.gov/Calendar/iCal.aspx?i d=1&si=37709\n\nWeb resources:\n\nRegister for a Zoom Session\nhttps://www .alexandriava.gov/dchs/economicsupport/default.aspx?id=123575\n DTEND:20210811T000001Z DTSTAMP:20210804T182046Z DTSTART:20210810T220000Z LOCATION: Virtual Only SEQUENCE:5 STATUS:CONFIRMED SUMMARY:Guaranteed Income Pilot Information Session TRANSP:TRANSPARENT UID:eba05bdb-45ae-4fd5-9123-9216281daca9 URL:https://www.alexandriava.gov/dchs/economicsupport/default.aspx?id=12357 5 X-COA-DTSTAMP:20210804T182046Z END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
