 red prescription medications? Dispose of them safely at the "Drug Take Bac
 k" to prevent pill abuse and theft. \n\nOfficers from the Alexandria Polic
 e Department will be collecting unwanted medications outside First Baptist
  Church as part of this local Drug Take Back Day. The Alexandria Police De
 partment and the Alexandria Sheriff's Office\, with cooperation from the S
 ubstance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria\, are staffing multiple 
 drop off sites for Drug Take Back.\n\nDrop off potentially dangerous expir
 ed\, unused and unwanted prescription drugs and other medications for safe
  disposal and destruction. These drugs can be a source of supply for illeg
 al use and an unacceptable risk to public health and safety\, particularly
  in the case of opioids. \n\nThis initiative addresses a vital public safe
 ty and public health issue. Many Americans are not aware that medicines th
 at languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion\, misuse 
 and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are o
 btained from family and friends\, including from the home medicine cabinet
 . In addition\, many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of thei
 r unused medicine\, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them a
 way - both potential safety and health hazards. \n\nThis program also supp
 orts the goals of the Eco-City Alexandria initiative to promote a place wh
 ere people can live healthier and economically productive lives while redu
 cing their impact on the environment. \n\nThe service is free and anonymou
