Dispose of them safely at the "Drug Take Bac k" to prevent pill abuse and theft. \n\nOfficers from the Alexandria Polic e Department will be collecting unwanted medications at Fire Station 210 a s part of this national Drug Take Back Day initiated by the Drug Enforceme nt Administration. The Alexandria Police Department and the Alexandria She riff's Office\, with cooperation from the Substance Abuse Prevention Coali tion of Alexandria\, are staffing multiple drop off sites for Drug Take Ba ck.\n\nDrop off potentially dangerous expired\, unused and unwanted prescr iption drugs and other medications for safe disposal and destruction. Thes e drugs can be a source of supply for illegal use and an unacceptable risk to public health and safety\, particularly in the case of opioids. \n\nTh is initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Man y Americans are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets ar e highly susceptible to diversion\, misuse and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends \, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition\, many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine\, often flush ing them down the toilet or throwing them away - both potential safety and health hazards. \n\nThis program also supports the goals of the Eco-City Alexandria initiative to promote a place where people can live healthier a nd economically productive lives while reducing their impact on the enviro nment. \n\nThe service is free and anonymous\; no questions asked.\n\nLoca tion: Fire Station 210\nContact Phone: 703.746.6600\nAudience: Anyone may attend\nTags: APDCalendar\, Criminal Justice\, Eco-City\, Eisenhower West\ , Fire Department\, Health\, Public Safety\, West End\n\nImport this event into your calendar: http://apps.alexandriava.gov/Calendar/iCal.aspx?id=1& si=27865\n\nWeb resources:\n\nhttps://www.alexandriava.gov/uploadedFiles/S heriff/info/DrugTakeBackFlyerFall2019.pdf\n DTEND:20191026T180000Z DTSTAMP:20190920T143803Z DTSTART:20191026T140000Z LOCATION:Fire Station 210 SEQUENCE:4 STATUS:CONFIRMED SUMMARY:Drug Take Back at Station 210 TRANSP:TRANSPARENT UID:50ab0097-6fc8-4050-bdb7-486487134f3c URL:https://www.alexandriava.gov/uploadedFiles/Sheriff/info/DrugTakeBackFly erFall2019.pdf X-COA-DTSTAMP:20190920T143803Z END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
