DESCRIPTION:In recognition of Fair Housing Month this April\, the City of A
 lexandria is sponsoring activities to promote the awareness and understand
 ing of fair housing. April was declared National Fair Housing Month by the
  U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to recognize the anniver
 sary of the Fair Housing Act of 1968\, and to remember the assassination o
 f the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.\, which occurred a week before the A
 ct was signed. Fair Housing Month is celebrated as an opportunity for reco
 mmitment to the goal of eliminating housing discrimination and the creatio
 n of equal opportunity in every community.

 ining.\n\n1. The Fourth Annual Fair Housing Poster Contest to educate yout
 h on how fair housing laws protect all Alexandrians against illegal housin
 g discrimination. All students in grades K-5 are eligible to enter the con
 test. Entries must be original artwork and represent this year's theme\, "
 Fair Housing Lives in Alexandria." To participate\, please contact the Off
 ice of Housing.\n\n2. A free training\, "Understanding Fair Housing Compli
 ance for Condominium and Community Associations" on Saturday\, April 6 fro
 m 10am - 12pm. To register\, please contact the Office of Housing.\n\n3. T
