Dispose of them safely at the "Drug Take Bac k" to prevent pill abuse and theft. \n\nOfficers from the Alexandria Polic e Department will be collecting unwanted medications at their headquarters as part of this national Drug Take Back Day initiated by the Drug Enforce ment Administration. The Alexandria Police Department and the Alexandria S heriff's Office\, with cooperation from the Substance Abuse Prevention Coa lition of Alexandria\, are staffing multiple drop off sites for Drug Take Back.\n\nDrop off potentially dangerous expired\, unused and unwanted pres cription drugs and other medications for safe disposal and destruction. Th ese drugs can be a source of supply for illegal use and an unacceptable ri sk to public health and safety\, particularly in the case of opioids. \n\n This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. M any Americans are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion\, misuse and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and frien ds\, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition\, many American s do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine\, often flu shing them down the toilet or throwing them away - both potential safety a nd health hazards. \n\nThis program also supports the goals of the Eco-Cit y Alexandria initiative to promote a place where people can live healthier and economically productive lives while reducing their impact on the envi ronment. \n\nThe service is free and anonymous\; no questions asked.\n\nLo cation: Police Headquarters\nContact Person: PIO Crystal Nosal\nContact P hone: 703.746.6600\nAudience: Anyone may attend\nTags: APDCalendar\, Crimi nal Justice\, Eco-City\, Health\, Public Safety\, West End\n\nImport this event into your calendar: http://apps.alexandriava.gov/Calendar/iCal.aspx? id=1&si=25023\n\nWeb resources:\n\nhttps://www.alexandriava.gov/uploadedFi les/Sheriff/info/DrugTakeBackFlyerSpring2019.pdf\n DTEND:20190427T180000Z DTSTAMP:20190321T175344Z DTSTART:20190427T140000Z GEO:38.806875;-77.092330 LOCATION:Police Headquarters SEQUENCE:4 STATUS:CONFIRMED SUMMARY:Drug Take Back at APD HQ TRANSP:TRANSPARENT UID:f55d1b60-c41d-4827-bd1f-885423bd9ad9 URL:https://www.alexandriava.gov/uploadedFiles/Sheriff/info/DrugTakeBackFly erSpring2019.pdf X-COA-DTSTAMP:20190321T175344Z END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
