Dispose of them safely at the "Drug Take Bac k" to prevent pill abuse and theft. \n\nDeputies from the Alexandria Sheri ff's Office will be collecting unwanted medications outside the Neighborho od Pharmacy at 2204 Mount Vernon Avenue as part of this national Drug Take Back Day initiated by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The Alexandria Police Department and the Alexandria Sheriff's Office\, with cooperation from the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria\, are staffing multiple drop off sites for Drug Take Back.\n\nDrop off potentially dange rous expired\, unused and unwanted prescription drugs and other medication s for safe disposal and destruction. These drugs can be a source of supply for illegal use and an unacceptable risk to public health and safety\, pa rticularly in the case of opioids. \n\nThis initiative addresses a vital p ublic safety and public health issue. Many Americans are not aware that me dicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion \, misuse and abuse. In addition\, many Americans do not know how to properly dispo se of their unused medicine\, often flushing them down the toilet or throw ing them away - both potential safety and health hazards. \n\nThis program also supports the goals of the Eco-City Alexandria initiative to promote a place where people can live healthier and economically productive lives while reducing their impact on the environment. \n\nThe service is free an d anonymous\; no questions asked.\n\nLocation: No Location Specified\nCon tact Person: PIO Amy Bertsch\nContact Phone: 703.746.4114\nAudience: Anyon e may attend\nTags: APDCalendar\, Criminal Justice\, Del Ray\, Eco-City\, Health\, Mt.
