 Betty Veatch collection documents 54 archaeological sites in the Potomac C
 reek estuary. This area has been occupied for thousands of years and was t
 he location of the village of Patawomeke\, which John Smith encountered in
  his explorations of the Potomac River in 1607. The Betty Veatch collectio
 n includes prehistoric and historic artifacts\, as well as Veatch's journa
 ls\, field logs\, and photographs dating from the late 1970s to early 1980
 s. \n\nErin Cagney will shed light on the life and legacy of Betty Veatch\
 , the feminist archaeology movement of the early 1980s\, and the potential
  implications of the collection for better understanding the prehistory of
  the Potomac Creek estuary. Cagney is an MA student at American University
  with a background in mid-Atlantic prehistoric and historic archaeology\, 
 legacy collections research and management\, and public outreach. \n\nJoin
  Friends of Alexandria Archaeology for a free Java Jolt lecture with Erin 
 Cagney on Saturday\, May 5 at the Alexandria Archaeology Museum. Artifacts
