This area has been occupied for thousands of years and was t he location of the village of Patawomeke\, which John Smith encountered in his explorations of the Potomac River in 1607. The Betty Veatch collectio n includes prehistoric and historic artifacts\, as well as Veatch's journa ls\, field logs\, and photographs dating from the late 1970s to early 1980 s. \n\nErin Cagney will shed light on the life and legacy of Betty Veatch\ , the feminist archaeology movement of the early 1980s\, and the potential implications of the collection for better understanding the prehistory of the Potomac Creek estuary.
