 stitutionalization of benevolence in the United States. She is the author 
 of "The American Red Cross\, from Clara Barton to the New Deal." Her lectu
 re will focus on the experiences of specific nurses in World War I gleaned
  from journals and diaries\, including two from Virginia. She is a graduat
 e of Harvard University and received her M.P.H in Sociomedical Sciences an
 d Ph.D. in Sociomedical Sciences/History\, Ethics & Policy from Columbia U
 niversity. She is Associate Professor of Family Science at The University
