Dispose of them safely at the "Drug Take-Bac k" to prevent pill abuse and theft. \n\nOfficers from the Alexandria Polic e Department will be collecting unwanted medications Fire Station 210 as p art of this national Drug Take Back Day initiated by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The Alexandria Police Department and the Alexandria Sherif f's Office\, with cooperation from the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalitio n of Alexandria\, are staffing multiple drop off sites for Drug Take Back. \n\nDrop off potentially dangerous expired\, unused and unwanted prescript ion drugs and other medications for safe disposal and destruction. These d rugs can be a source of supply for illegal use and an unacceptable risk to public health and safety. \n\nThis initiative addresses a vital public sa fety and public health issue. Many Americans are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion\, misus e and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends\, including from the home medicine cabin et.
