Dispose of them safely at the "Drug Take-Bac k" to prevent pill abuse and theft. \n\nDeputies from the Alexandria Sheri ff's Office will be collecting unwanted medications outside The Neighborho od Pharmacy at 2204 Mount Vernon Avenue as part of this national Drug Take Back Day initiated by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The Alexandria Police Department and the Alexandria Sheriff's Office\, with cooperation from the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria\, are staffing multiple drop off sites for Drug Take Back.\n\nDrop off potentially dange rous expired\, unused and unwanted prescription drugs and other medication s for safe disposal and destruction. These drugs can be a source of supply for illegal use and an unacceptable risk to public health and safety. \n\ nThis initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Many Americans are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion\, misuse and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and frie nds\, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition\, many America ns do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine\, often fl ushing them down the toilet or throwing them away - both potential safety and health hazards. \n\nThis program also supports the goals of the Eco-Ci ty Alexandria initiative to promote a place where people can live healthie r and economically productive lives while reducing their impact on the env ironment. \n\nThe service is free and anonymous\; no questions asked.\n\nL ocation: No Location Specified\nContact Person: Amy Bertsch\nContact Phon e: 703.746.5014\nAudience: Anyone may attend\nTags: APDCalendar\, Criminal Justice\, Del Ray\, Eco-City\, Health\, Mt.
