Dispose of them safely at the "Drug Take-Bac k" to prevent pill abuse and theft. \n\nOfficers from the Alexandria Polic e Department will be collecting unwanted medications outside First Baptist Church as part of the national Drug Take Back Day initiated by the Drug E nforcement Administration. The Alexandria Police Department and the Alexan dria Sheriff's Office\, with cooperation from the Substance Abuse Preventi on Coalition of Alexandria\, are staffing multiple drop off sites for Drug Take Back.\n\nDrop off potentially dangerous expired\, unused and unwante d prescription drugs and other medications for safe disposal and destructi on. These drugs can be a source of supply for illegal use and an unaccepta ble risk to public health and safety. \n\nThis initiative addresses a vita l public safety and public health issue. Many Americans are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to divers ion\, misuse and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescriptio n drugs are obtained from family and friends\, including from the home med icine cabinet.
