When used in a syst ematic and controlled manner\, metal detectors of quality may have particu larly insightful results in many archaeological situations in conjunction with\, and over and above\, current/traditional survey and excavation sche mes. \n This presentation will de-mystify the technologies and the machine ry and will further demonstrate their simple use and applications\, with a n emphasis on simple\, uncomplicated\, and the immediate use of the equipm ent. The proper and efficient archaeological usage of the equipment will b e demonstrated using a recent case study where extensive standard test pit s (STPs) were first used and then similarly systematic metal detecting was subsequently utilized on the same site. An additional case study will dem onstrate the effectiveness of using hobbyist metal detectorists in archaeo logical projects.\nMark Michael Ludlow M.A. RPA\, is currently a Ph.D. stu dent in Archaeology at The School of Archaeology\, History and Anthropolog y at The University of Wales - Trinity Saint David\, Wales\, in the United Kingdom. He also has a B.A. in anthropology from Drew University\, an M. A. with Merit in archaeology from The University of Leicester\, Leicesters hire\, England. Mark is also a registered professional archaeologist (RPA) and an AMDA Certified Metal Detectorist.\nHe has had experience in Easter n Woodlands archaeology\, historic archaeology\, the archaeology of histor ic standing buildings\, Pre-Columbian Caribbean ornitho-archaeology\, and is a member of the Alexandria Archaeological Commission. \nThe illustrated lecture is sponsored by the Friends of Alexandria Archaeology and light r efreshments will be served.\n\n\nLocation: Alexandria Archaeology Museum\, 105 N.
