Dispose of them safely at a convenient locatio n with the "Take-Back" initiative to prevent pill abuse and theft.\n\nStop by First Baptist Church\, 2932 King Street\, where the Alexandria Police Department and Alexandria Sheriff's Office\, with cooperation from the Sub stance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria\, are collecting potential ly dangerous expired\, unused and unwanted prescription drugs and other me dications for destruction. These drugs can be a source of supply for illeg al use and an unacceptable risk to public health and safety. \n\nThis init iative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Many Ameri cans are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highl y susceptible to diversion\, misuse and abuse. Studies show that a majorit y of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends\, incl uding from the home medicine cabinet. In addition\, many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine\, often flushing the m down the toilet or throwing them away - both potential safety and health hazards.\n\nThis program also supports the goals of the Eco-City Alexandr ia initiative to promote a place where people can live healthier and econo mically productive lives while reducing their impact on the environment. \ n\nAccording to the Environmental Protection Agency's Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products as Pollutants (PPCPs) website\, studies have shown that pharmaceuticals (including prescription and over-the-counter therapeu tic drugs) are present in our nation's waterbodies\, and further research suggests that certain drugs may cause ecological harm. Proper disposal of prescription and over-the-counter therapeutic drugs can help reduce the im pact to aquatic and ecological life. \n\nThis one-day effort\, in partners hip with the Drug Enforcement Administration\, is intended to bring nation al focus to the issue of increasing pharmaceutical controlled substance ab use. The service is free and anonymous\; no questions asked. \n\n\nLocatio n: First Baptist Church\, 2932 King St.\nContact Person: Ashley Hildebrand t\nContact Phone: 703.746.6600\nContact Email: ashley.hildebrandt@alexandr iava.gov\nAudience: Anyone may attend\nTags: Criminal Justice\, Eco-City\, Health\, King Street\, Public Safety\, West End\n\nImport this event into your calendar: http://apps.alexandriava.gov/Calendar/iCal.aspx?id=1&si=11 397 DTEND:20150926T180000Z DTSTAMP:20150827T184652Z DTSTART:20150926T140000Z GEO:38.819632;-77.078415 LOCATION:First Baptist Church\, 2932 King St. SEQUENCE:4 STATUS:CONFIRMED SUMMARY:Drug Take Back Day at First Baptist TRANSP:TRANSPARENT UID:5f6c28a6-7354-4896-a197-b2704bc3e378 X-COA-DTSTAMP:20150827T184652Z END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
