Join us for four history lectures and book signin gs by local historians. April's lecture features Dr. John Maass. Around th e North Carolina village of Guilford Courthouse in the late winter of 1781 \, two weary armies clashed on a cold\, wet afternoon. American forces und er Gen. Nathanael Greene engaged Lord Cornwallis's British army in a bitte r two-hour battle of the Revolutionary War. The frightful contest at Guilf ord was a severe conflict in which troops made repeated use of their flint lock muskets\, steel bayonets and dragoon swords in hand-to-hand fighting that killed and wounded about eight hundred men. Historian John R. Maass r ecounts the bloody battle and the grueling campaign in the South that led up to it\, a crucial event on the road to American independence. \n\nLocat ion: Lyceum\nFees: $10\nAudience: Anyone may attend\nTags: Lecture\, Museu ms\, Old Town\n\nImport this event into your calendar: http://apps.alexand riava.gov/Calendar/iCal.aspx?id=1&si=29308 DTEND:20200415T003000Z DTSTAMP:20200317T170858Z DTSTART:20200414T230000Z LOCATION:Lyceum SEQUENCE:6 STATUS:CANCELLED SUMMARY:CANCELLED: Rescheduled-Local Author Lecture Series TRANSP:TRANSPARENT UID:69a5d59f-1ede-40fc-a22c-b550edac39bc X-COA-DTSTAMP:20200317T170858Z END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
