 ur home and our historic community. Contrary to popular belief\, you can p
 reserve the historic elements of the interior and exterior of your home an
 d still have modern amenities\, all the while taking advantage of federal\
 , state and local tax incentives. \nIn our designated historic districts\,
  the facades of homes are protected by the Building and Architectural Revi
 ew Board (BAR)\, but there are also ways to preserve interior aspects of y
 our home and outdoor spaces. Interior easements are available for particul
 ar elements of a home such as an original fireplace mantel\, detailed arch
 ways\, period moldings\, and other architectural details. Taking on such e
 asements doesn't preclude the installation of contemporary features\, such
  as a new kitchen or bath. Open space easements that preserve gardens\, hi
 storic walls or outside structures are also available. \nOn Wednesday\, Ap
 ril 19\, 2023\, a panel of experts will discuss interior\, exterior and op
 en space easements for historic homes\, the tax benefits and impacts on re
 al estate sales. Several current easement holders\, both original and subs
 equent\, will also be available to share their experiences. A question and

 rray-Dick-Fawcett house began in 1772\, with additions in 1784\, 1797 and 
 1854 and has changed very little since. It is one of the oldest\, least al
 tered wood-frame buildings in Northern Virginia and was acquired by the Ci
 ty of Alexandria in 2017 for use as a historic site and vest pocket park. 
 This lecture by retired City Planner Al Cox will explain some of the physi
 cal and archival research that preceded the recent restoration of the exte
 rior building envelope\, show discoveries made during this phase of constr
 uction\, and discuss the next steps for documentation and interpretation.

 ies (and adults who missed their Hogwarts' letter) that will explore the o
 ld Apothecary and the historic muggle medicines that inspired the Herbolog
 y and Potions of Harry's wizarding world. At the end of the tour test your
  skills and make your own potion to try at home.Each timed-entry will be a
  separate guided tour\, so be sure to purchase your group's tickets for on
 ly one entry time. Due to the small spaces in the museum\, the capacity fo

 cated at 1421 Wilkes Street\, has several preservation issues\, including 
 flooding and drainage problems. \n\nThe City of Alexandria staff from the 
 Office of Historic Alexandria\, Department of Project Implementation\, Tra
 nsportation and Environmental Services\, and Recreation\, Parks & Cultural
  Activities are working to address these preservation issues. The Social R
 esponsibility Group and the Friends of Douglass Cemetery have dedicated th
 eir efforts to raise awareness of the significance of the historic African
  American cemetery and resolve the preservation issues. The City has devel
 oped plans to implement solutions that are respectful and appropriate to t
 he sensitive nature of the site. City Staff will present an update on the 
 plans to mitigate the causes of flooding in addition to other preservation
  updates.\n\nThe meeting will be held at the Lee Center from 6:00-6:45 p.m
 . NOTE: The meeting will then move to Douglass Cemetery at 6:45 p.m. for a
