 s Fire Engine Association (FVFEA) holds its annual Firehouse Festival each
  year on the first Saturday in August. The popular family event features a
 ntique fire apparatus\, craft booths\, and displays by community organizat
 ions. In addition to the day's outdoor events\, festival participants will
  enjoy visiting the Friendship Firehouse Museum\, originally built as a fi
 rehouse in 1855. The FVFEA is now a philanthropic organization focusing on
  fire-fighting history and fire safety.  It remains active in community ev
 ents\, including the annual Festival\, and supports historic preservation 
 of the building and its collection. Food and beverages are available. Chil
 dren will receive free fire helmets and are treated to a supervised visit

 ed at 1315 Duke Street\, was "ground zero" for the domestic slave in the C
 hesapeake region. Between 1828 and 1861\, thousands of men\, women\, and c
 hildren were sent by ship or forcibly marched to the lucrative slave marke
 ts in Natchez and New Orleans. Agents of the slave dealers purchased indiv
 iduals throughout Maryland and Virginia and brought them to the Alexandria
  Slave Pen before transport to the Deep South. The names of the enslaved c
 an be seen today on ship manifests and court records.  This year your dona
 tion will support this important national landmark by helping us create a 
 Freedom House Preservation Fund. Currently\, over 2 million dollars in fun
 ding is needed to preserve and restore this building. To be able to interp
 ret its history\, the building must be made safe and accessible for all vi
 sitors. Since so many sites related to the domestic slave trade no longer

 ity. In order to reserve a space and maintain physical distancing\, purcha
 se your entry time in advance at a steep discount. Instead of paying per p
 erson for admission\, advanced tickets are only $2 for your entire group o
 f up to ten people. Purchase one $2 ticket for up to ten people in your pa
 rty. \n\nIn lieu of individual tickets\, select one entrance time for your
  group and present your emailed receipt. Alexandria residents visit for fr
 ee\, but please reserve a time. If you have already purchased a Key to the

 ric hose carriage! The Friendship Fire Company's ornate hose-reel carriage
 \, purchased in 1858\, has been off-site for much-needed conservation trea
 tment. At the welcome-back event Conservator Josiah Wagener will discuss t
 he conservation treatment\, how he determined the historic appearance of t
 he apparatus\, and the techniques he used. Today's first responders and fi
 re apparatus will also be at the event. Come and compare equipment used in
  2022 with apparatus available in the 1850s. Movement teams of City offici
 als\, Friendship Veterans Fire Engine Association Trustees and donors\, an
 d members of the Alexandria Fire Department will move the apparatus into t

 tablished in 1774\, was the first fire company in Alexandria. Today the Fr
 iendship Firehouse\, built in 1855\, is a museum open to the public. The F
 estival will be the last opportunity to see Friendship's 1851 hand-operate
 d suction engine - elaborately decorated with the company's clasped-hands 
 insignia - before it is sent for conservation treatment. The restoration i
 s possible thanks to the generous support of the Friendship Veterans Fire 
 Engine Association\, Alexandria Association\, Historic Alexandria Foundati
 on\, and many individual donors.  \nFriendship's newly restored 1858 hose-
 reel carriage will also be on exhibit. This ornate apparatus was made by l
 ocal craftsman Robert F. Prettyman. It is painted midnight blue with white
  decorative piping\, has gilded decorative shields flanking each side of t
 he reel\, red wheels decorated with blue and gold striping\, and a brass l
