 and Syphax family genealogist Steve Hammond for a lecture on November 19th
  via Zoom at 7p.m. \n\nAlexandria's location has impacted the people who h
 ave lived and worked here through the centuries. Steve Hammond will share 
 his Syphax family legacy and how it connects with Alexandria. His research
  is a compelling story of challenge and discovery.  Working to find the Af
 rican American roots of the prominent Syphax family\, he forged working re
 lationships with scholars across the nation. Through his work\, Mount Vern
 on\, Carlyle House\, Arlington House\, and the White House Historical Asso
 ciation as well as  Historic Alexandria's own Gadsby's Tavern Museum and t
 he Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum have been able to tell a more comp
 lete story of Alexandria and the nation.\n\nSteve Hammond is retired from 
 the United States Department of Interior after many years of service as an
  earth scientist. A genealogist and family historian\, Hammond has spent d
 ecades researching\, writing\, and lecturing about the Syphax Family and t
 heir place in Virginia history. Nancy Syphax\, once enslaved by tavern kee
 per John Gadsby\, is Mr. Hammond's third great-grandmother.\nThe lecture i

 rthday\, the Apothecary Museum is offering a special tour for families (an
 d adults who missed their Hogwarts' letter) that will explore the old Apot
 hecary and the historic muggle medicines that inspired the Herbology and P
 otions of Harry's wizarding world. Tours are every 30 minutes from 11 a.m.
  to 6 p.m. Recommended for fans ages 8 and older.\n\nTours are capped at s
 ix people due to small spaces in the Museum and for the safety of our staf
 f and visitors. Masks are required for unvaccinated visitors and children 
 under 12.  For a private tour\, you may purchase all six tickets for your 
 tour time (if available)\, even if there will be less than six people in y
 our group. Each timed-entry will be a separate tour\, so be sure to purcha
 se your group's tickets for only one timed-entry. Groups larger than six p
 eople must split up to visit the museum. Touring the museum involves ascen
