 ldren will not be able to sit through it. Attend one of the "Bagels and Ba
 ch" Concerts on the First Sunday of each month. You will enjoy classical\,
  your children will begin to learn how to appreciate classical music and a
  light brunch\, what better way to enjoy a Sunday morning? The December 1 
 concert will be held at the Durant Center\, 1605 Cameron Street. Doors ope
 n at 11 a.m.\, concert begins at 11:30 p.m. \n\nThe Prov?zek Quartet will

  the Washington\, DC metropolitan region. Its members are Mia Lunati (viol
 in)\, Leah Nickelsburg (violin)\, Eliza Medearis (viola) and Kristian Dill
 on (cello). The group formed in the Spring of 2015 with a common goal to c
 hallenge themselves to play great music. The members share enthusiasm for 
 romantic compositions and fun music\, like tangos and adaptations of popul
 ar music. The quartet can be found playing and competing against other tal
 ented musicians in the greater Washington\, DC area. Their professional en

 The American Youth Philharmonic is a musical training ground for the most

 ral literature spanning from Classical to contemporary and commissioned wo
 rks. Typically includes students grades 9th-12th\, averaging grade 11. The

 xander von Humboldt's Visit to Washington in 1804\," co-sponsored by the O

 rst days of June 1804\, the Prussian explorer Alexander von Humboldt was a
  guest of President Jefferson in the White House\, and took the opportunit
 y to visit also Georgetown\, Alexandria\, and Mount Vernon. The visit also
  happened right after the Louisiana Purchase and the beginning of a series
  of exploration voyages into the West\, when his expertise was of particul
 ar importance for the young nation. Dr. Sandra Rebok is a historian\, auth
 or\, speaker and scientific consultant. Trained in Heidelberg\, Paris and 
 Madrid\, she worked for many years at the Spanish National Research Counci
 l. Her research focuses on the globalization of science\, intellectual net
 works and transnational scientific collaborations during the 19th century.

 the local newspaper asserting their loyalty to the "authorities of the tow

 stored the ship timbers in tanks of water to keep the wood from decaying.

 w development along Alexandria's historic shoreline triggered archaeologic
 al work in advance of construction. Project by project\, the remains of wh
 arves\, warehouses\, dwellings and houselots\, industries\, privies\, and 
 four ship hull remnants emerged from the waterlogged depths at the Potomac
  River's edge. The level of preservation under these modern City blocks wa
 s astounding - 20th century slab-built structures nearly perfectly encapsu
 lated entire remains of historic waterfront neighborhoods. This talk will 
 provide an update on the research and preservation of the ships' timbers a
 nd other archaeological finds. Even as individual features and artifact as
 semblages\, these finds are highly significant\, but when taken together a
 long with a wealth of historical documentary data\, a historic maritime la
 ndscape is taking form.\n\nDr. Eleanor Breen is a historical archaeologist
  with two decades of experience on sites in the mid-Atlantic region. As Ci
 ty Archaeologist\, Eleanor currently directs the renowned public archaeolo
 gy program and museum that preserves and interprets the buried history of

 nstruction crews excavating along the Alexandria waterfront revealed the b
 roken remains of four 18th-century wooden ships in what was once the shore
 line of the Potomac River. To study them\, each ship was disarticulated an
 d the individual timbers were laser scanned\, allowing researchers to virt
 ually reassemble the ships and develop theoretical reconstructions of how 
 they would have looked when they were in use. These highly accurate digita
 l timber models were 3D printed and assembled by a master ship model maker
 \, further informing these reconstructions. The four ships are now on two 
 different preservation journeys. The Hotel Indigo ship was sent to the Con
 servation Research Laboratory at Texas A&M University for conservation by 
 freeze drying\, and the three Robinson Landing ships were submerged in a p
 ond at Ben Brenman Park this spring. Hear the latest findings and discover
  what was learned through digitally reconstructing the four ships.  \n\nCh
 ristopher Dostal is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Anthropo
 logy's Nautical Archaeology Program at Texas A&M University\, where he is 
 also the Director of the Center for Maritime Archaeology and Conservation\
 , the Conservation Research Laboratory\, and the Director of the Analytica
 l Archaeology Laboratory in charge of scanning the four 18th century ships
  excavated in Alexandria. He holds his degrees from Texas A&M University (
 Ph.D.)\, and the University of Colorado at Boulder. His research and work 
 includes historical maritime archaeology of North America and Western Euro
 pe\, the conservation and long-term preservation of waterlogged archaeolog
 ical artifacts\, preservation and documentation techniques for underwater

 route of the African American Waterfront Heritage Trail! The event is free

 yceum. Enjoy an opportunity to "talk history" with members of the AAHTC. E
 ach stop highlights the importance of Black history in Alexandria\, what a

 impacts of community history initiatives like this one. Prominent and less
 er known stories of African American people\, places\, and neighborhoods f
 rom the time of Alexandria's founding through the 20th century will be fea
 tured. Remarks begin at 11:00 a.m. Light refreshments will be served. \n\n
 The African American Waterfront Heritage Trails illuminate the history of 
 the African American community over a span of centuries. These trails high
 light the contributions of Black Alexandrians\, free and enslaved\, to the
  history of Alexandria's waterfront. The South Trail Route consists of 19 
 stops and is the second in a series of trails covering the waterfront. The
  North Trail Route\, launched in 2021\, includes 11 stops. Together the tw
 o trails span a little over three miles from Montgomery St. to the south e
 nd of Jones Point Park. The trails can be experienced on a computer or as 
 a StoryMap on a smartphone as you walk the trails along the Potomac River.
  The African American Waterfront Heritage Trail Committee is made up of vo
 lunteer community members and historians and is supported by staff from th
 e Alexandria Black History Museum and Alexandria Archaeology.  \n\nParking
  is limited in the Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum parking lot. Me

 ers of City Council will light a candelabrum that the late Holocaust survi
 vor Charlene Schiff and her husband\, Ed\, donated to the city. The 54-inc
 h high\, solid brass candelabrum was donated in memory of Charlene Schiff'
 s parents and sister\, and the six million Jews and millions of others who
  perished in the Holocaust. The Schiff candelabrum is also made available 
 to schools and civic groups studying the Holocaust.\n\nThe U.S. Holocaust 
 Memorial Museum leads the nation in the weeklong Days of Remembrance comme

 nThe speaker for this year's Days of Remembrance will be Dr. Alfred M?nzer
 \, a a recently retired physician specializing in diseases of the lung who
  was Director of the Pulmonary Medicine Department at Washington Adventist
  Hospital in Takoma Park.\n\nDuring the ceremony\, Mayor Justin Wilson and
  members of City Council will light a candelabrum that the late Holocaust 
 survivor Charlene Schiff and her husband\, Ed\, donated to the City. The 5
 4-inch high\, solid brass candelabrum was donated in memory of Charlene Sc
 hiff's parents and sister\, and the six million Jews and millions of other
 s who perished in the Holocaust. The Schiff candelabrum is also made avail
 able to schools and civic groups studying the Holocaust.\n\nThe U.S. Holoc
 aust Memorial Museum leads the nation in the weeklong Days of Remembrance 
 commemoration\, in accordance with Congressional mandate.\n\nInformation o
 n antisemitism and hate crimes in the U.S. can be found on the websites of
  the Southern Poverty Law Center (www.splcenter.org) and the ADL (www.adl.
