 trace the role of local troops in this key Confederate regiment during Ro
 bert E. Lee's invasion of Maryland.  The tour will begin by visiting two 
 sites in Alexandria where members of the 17th are buried\, then travel to
  South Mountain in Frederick\, Maryland to visit sites related to that ba
 ttle.  The tour will continue to Antietam National Battlefield where part
 icipants will explore the role of the 17th Virginia during the September 
 17\, 1862  battle which became known as the bloodiest single day of the w
