The Friendship \, Sun\, Relief\, Hydraulion\, and Star volunteer fire companies served t he community faithfully\, particularly during enormous blazes in 1827\, 1 855\, and 1871. \n\nFriendship Firehouse Museum's historic firefighting v ehicles includes the Prettyman Hose Reel Carriage\, built in Alexandria i n 1858 by coachmaker\, and Friendship Fire Company member\, Robert Pretty man.
