ar/Detail.aspx?si=4842\n\nHave unused and expired prescription medication
s? Dispose of them safely at a convenient location with the "Take-Back" i
nitiative to prevent pill abuse and theft.\n\nStop by the Del Ray Pharmac
y\, 2204 Mount Vernon Avenue\, where the Alexandria Police Department and
the Alexandria Sheriff's Office\, with cooperation from the Substance Ab
use Prevention Coalition of Alexandria\, are collecting potentially dange
rous expired\, unused and unwanted prescription drugs and other medicatio
ns for destruction. These drugs can be a source of supply for illegal use
and an unacceptable risk to public health and safety. \n\nThis initiativ
e addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Many Americans
are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly s
usceptible to diversion\, misuse and abuse. Studies show that a majority
of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends\, inclu
ding from the home medicine cabinet. In addition\, many Americans do not
know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine\, often flushing th
em down the toilet or throwing them away - both potential safety and heal
th hazards.\n\nThis one-day effort\, in partnership with the Drug Enforce
ment Administration\, is intended to bring national focus to the issue of
increasing pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse. The service is fre
e and anonymous\; no questions asked. \n\n\nLocation: No Location Specif
