ar/Detail.aspx?si=4841\n\nHave unused and expired prescription medication
s? Dispose of them safely at a convenient location with the "Take-Back" i
nitiative to prevent pill abuse and theft.\n\nThe Alexandria Police Depar
tment and the Alexandria Sheriff's Office\, with cooperation from the Sub
stance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria\, are collecting potentia
lly dangerous expired\, unused and unwanted prescription drugs and other
medications for destruction. These drugs can be a source of supply for il
legal use and an unacceptable risk to public health and safety. \n\nThis
initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Many
Americans are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are
highly susceptible to diversion\, misuse and abuse. Studies show that a
majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friend
s\, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition\, many American
s do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine\, often fl
ushing them down the toilet or throwing them away - both potential safety
and health hazards.\n\nThis one-day effort\, in partnership with the Dru
g Enforcement Administration\, is intended to bring national focus to the
issue of increasing pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse. The servi
ce is free and anonymous\; no questions asked. \n\n\nLocation: Police Hea
 dquarters\nContact Phone: 703.746.6600\nAudience: Anyone may attend\nTags
