DESCRIPTION:To verify info please see https://apps.alexandriava.gov/Calend
ar/Detail.aspx?si=35074\n\nHave unwanted and expired prescription medicat
ions? Dispose of them safely at the "Drug Take Back" to prevent pill abus
e and theft. \n\nDeputies from the Alexandria Sheriff's Office will be co
llecting unwanted medications at Fire Station 210 as part of this nationa
l Drug Take Back day. The Alexandria Police Department and the Alexandria
Sheriff's Office\, with cooperation from the Substance Abuse Prevention
Coalition of Alexandria\, are staffing multiple drop off sites for Drug T
ake Back.\n\nDrop off potentially dangerous expired\, unused and unwanted
prescription drugs and other medications for safe disposal and destructi
on. These drugs can be a source of supply for illegal use and an unaccept
able risk to public health and safety\, particularly in the case of opioi
ds. \n\nThis initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health
issue. Many Americans are not aware that medicines that languish in home
cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion\, misuse and abuse. Studies
show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from fami
ly and friends\, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition\,
many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medici
ne\, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away - both pot
ential safety and health hazards. \n\nThis program also supports the goal
s of the Eco-City Alexandria initiative to promote a place where people c
an live healthier and economically productive lives while reducing their
impact on the environment. \n\nThe service is free and anonymous\; no que
 stions asked.\n\nLocation: Fire Station 210\nContact Phone: 703.746.4114\
