DESCRIPTION:To verify info please see https://apps.alexandriava.gov/Calend
ar/Detail.aspx?si=29433\n\nHave unwanted and expired prescription medicat
ions? Dispose of them safely at the "Drug Take Back" to prevent pill abus
e and theft. \n\nOfficers from the Alexandria Police Department will be c
ollecting unwanted medications outside First Baptist Church as part of th
is local Drug Take Back Day. The Alexandria Police Department and the Ale
xandria Sheriff's Office\, with cooperation from the Substance Abuse Prev
ention Coalition of Alexandria\, are staffing multiple drop off sites for
Drug Take Back.\n\nDrop off potentially dangerous expired\, unused and u
nwanted prescription drugs and other medications for safe disposal and de
struction. These drugs can be a source of supply for illegal use and an u
nacceptable risk to public health and safety\, particularly in the case o
f opioids. \n\nThis initiative addresses a vital public safety and public
health issue. Many Americans are not aware that medicines that languish
in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion\, misuse and abuse.
Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained fr
om family and friends\, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addi
tion\, many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of their unused
medicine\, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away - b
oth potential safety and health hazards. \n\nThis program also supports t
he goals of the Eco-City Alexandria initiative to promote a place where p
eople can live healthier and economically productive lives while reducing
  their impact on the environment. \n\nThe service is free and anonymous\;
  no questions asked.\n\nLocation: First Baptist Church\, 2932 King St.\nC
