  Day. The Alexandria Police Department and the Alexandria Sheriff's Offic
 e\, with cooperation from the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Ale
 xandria\, are staffing multiple drop off sites for Drug Take Back.\n\nDro
 p off potentially dangerous expired\, unused and unwanted prescription dr
 ugs and other medications for safe disposal and destruction. These drugs 
 can be a source of supply for illegal use and an unacceptable risk to pub
 lic health and safety. \n\nThis initiative addresses a vital public safet
 y and public health issue. Many Americans are not aware that medicines th
 at languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion\, misuse
  and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are
  obtained from family and friends\, including from the home medicine cabi
 net. In addition\, many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of 
 their unused medicine\, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing t
 hem away - both potential safety and health hazards. \n\nThis program als
