ar/Detail.aspx?si=17216\n\nHave unwanted and expired prescription medicat
ions? Dispose of them safely at the "Drug Take-Back" to prevent pill abus
e and theft. \n\nOfficers from the Alexandria Police Department will be c
ollecting unwanted medications outside First Baptist Church as part of Dr
ug Take Back Day The Alexandria Police Department and the Alexandria Sher
iff's Office\, with cooperation from the Substance Abuse Prevention Coali
tion of Alexandria\, are staffing multiple drop off sites for Drug Take B
ack.\n\nDrop off potentially dangerous expired\, unused and unwanted pres
cription drugs and other medications for safe disposal and destruction. T
hese drugs can be a source of supply for illegal use and an unacceptable
risk to public health and safety. \n\nThis initiative addresses a vital p
ublic safety and public health issue. Many Americans are not aware that m
edicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversi
on\, misuse and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescriptio
n drugs are obtained from family and friends\, including from the home me
dicine cabinet. In addition\, many Americans do not know how to properly
dispose of their unused medicine\, often flushing them down the toilet or
throwing them away - both potential safety and health hazards. \n\nThis
program also supports the goals of the Eco-City Alexandria initiative to
promote a place where people can live healthier and economically producti
ve lives while reducing their impact on the environment. \n\nThe service
is free and anonymous\; no questions asked.\n\nLocation: First Baptist Ch
