ar/Detail.aspx?si=1683\n\nArchaeologist Michael Johnson\, who recently re
tired from the Fairfax County Park Authority\, will present "History\, Ar
chaeology and Geology Highlights of the 'Dogue' in the Alexandria Area\,"
at this free Alexandria Historical Society lecture.\n\nRecent evidence b
rings into question many long held theories about the last American India
n tribe to occupy Alexandria\, and Fairfax and Prince William counties\,
including the name they called themselves. In addition to the questionabl
e term\, Dogue (var.)\, the quandary about the location of their principl
e seat of government\, Tauxenent\, which was mapped near Mason Neck in so
uthern Fairfax County by Captain John Smith in 1608\, will be discussed.
This presentation is as much about the multi-disciplinary approach used t
o address these questions. As will be evident\, almost 30 years of archeo
 logical\, geological\, hydrological\, paleo-climatological\, and historic
al research played major roles. \n\nLocation: The Lyceum\, 201 S. Washing
